THE gruesome murder-suicide of a Jozini police couple on Tuesday continues to haunt the small rural town.
Not only has the incident shaken the community to its core, but with little information on what really happened, rumours abound.
The bodies of Constable Sithabiso Mpanza (21) and Constable Sifiso Sibiya (30), both officers at Jozini Police Station, were found on Tuesday evening.
According to police, the incident occurred a few meters from the station where the couple worked.
Investigators found Mpanza’s body riddled with bullets, while Sibiya had sustained one gunshot to the head.
They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
‘Evidence suggests Sibiya killed his girlfriend en then committed suicide. The motive for the incident is unknown at this stage,’ said Jozini SAPS spokesperson, Capt Senzo Gumede.
A case of murder and an inquest docket have been opened.
