Crime centre back in business in eShowe

Satellite unit back in crime fighting business

THE police satellite unit destroyed earlier this year during violent protests in eShowe, has been replaced and a new unit has been officially handed over to the SAPS.

The unit was supplied by RH Construction from Richards Bay and the eShowe Community Policing Forum, the eShowe Branch of the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) and local businesses also contributed financially to the project.

The unit will be manned by SAPS members from 8am to 5pm on weekdays and from 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.

Local security company Black Hawk will provide 24-hour security and are also planning to install security cameras when all authorisations have been obtained.

Black Hawk CEO Chris Botes says that they are pleased to be involved in the project and hopes to be able to start something similar in other areas in which they operate.

eShowe CPF’s Stan Larkan thanked the SAPS for supporting the initiative, while eShowe Station Commander Lt Col Mathenjwa said that the facility will help the police in their visible policing efforts, which are crucial in crime prevention.

Duncan Balmer of the ZCCI said the organisation was happy to support these projects which will be to the benefit of all businesses in town.
