Stacks of stolen goods found in ‘hobo house’

Computers, household goods, reels and paddleskis among items discovered

MORE suspected stolen goods were found during another raid of the ‘hobo house’ in Krewelkring by security companies and members of the Meerensee CPF (Community Policing Forum) in the early hours of Sunday.

Computers, household goods, reels and paddle skis were only some of the items discovered on the property.

Four suspects fled the scene when Northern Region Protection Services (NRPS) and Votella security guards, together with CPF patrollers, stormed in.

The neglected house, owned by former South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA) CEO Tokonazi Magwaza, who resigned from the agency last week, became home to vagrants since the beginning of the year.

Since then neighbours have been plagued by stench coming from the property and a rise in crime in the upmarket suburb.

In April, a surprise search revealed condoms, human faeces, stripped electronics and rubbish scattered on the floors and floating in the pool.

‘The house is now fully occupied and filled with suspected stolen goods and beds carried in,’ said Meerensee CPF member Corrie Pretorius.

‘After countless requests to the uMhlatuze Municipality to act on health and safety issues, no attempts have been made to rectify the situation.

‘It is a serious health risk and haven for criminals, not to mention a major eyesore for nearby properties.

‘Something must be done!’

A response was not received from the City Municipality in time for print.
