EXCLUSIVE: Faith rises through the ashes for eSikhaleni woman

eSikhaleni fire victims still need help

‘MY faith will not be shaken, even in these tough times.’

Seated among the remains of what used to be her home, an eSikhaleni grandmother who lost everything in a fire in March still believes her faith will see her family through its difficult time.

Even though she has to struggle daily to put food on the table and with her grandchildren still without school uniforms, Lindeni Jele (49) trusts one day her family will still rise from the ashes.

With tears dripping down her face and her hands trembling as she rocked her grandson to sleep, Jele said the flames ripping through her home and her life’s work opened a new chapter of misery for her family.

Important documents were destroyed in the fire, which means she has lost access to the government grants for her four grandchildren.

‘My children have since stopped attending school since we can’t receive grants without proper documentation or cards. We have no means of feeding ourselves.
