Community benefit from skills development
Local business SME Richards Bay embarked on a further skills development initiative to empower their line managers and people living with disabilities in the local community
IN their quest to develop staff and local communities through the BBBEE transformation strategy, local business SME Richards Bay embarked on a further skills development initiative to empower their line managers and people living with disabilities in the local community.
The challenge was to ensure that both their staff and the community benefited from the training intervention, facilitated by the Institute for Rural and Community Development (IRCD).
Nawe Zifunze Disabled Association (NAZIDI) in Mzingazi, Richards Bay was identified as the beneficiary and training focused on areas of on-the-job training and guidance on how to recognise opportunities.

The skills programme had a dual purpose, to develop leadership skills within the organisation and empowered women within the community to train others in dressmaking and beading, using the skills of coaching and mentoring.
SME has previously supported NAZIDI with the training of its members in the Garden of Life micro farming skills project and, together with the on-the-job training, will greatly contribute to a more holistic approach to making a difference in their community.
