TWO accidents claimed four lives shortly after 9pm on Saturday evening.

A head-on collision on the N2 close to the KwaMbonambi bridge saw two occupants of a car and the driver of a bakkie declared dead on scene.

There were no other occupants in the vehicles and rescue workers battled for an hour to extricate the victims’ bodies from the car.

Earlier, a head-on crash at Buchanana resulted in one fatality and one serious injury.
