Sodwana Bay guest house owner Andre Slade opts for own defence
He made headlines last year when he sent an email saying blacks and government officials were not allowed to stay at the Sodwana Bay Guest House

SODWANA Bay guest house owner and controversial religious fanatic Andre Slade (54) is waiting in anticipation to hear whether his ‘unfair discrimination’ claim will be heard by the Constitutional Court.
He made headlines last year when he sent an email saying blacks and government officials were not allowed to stay at the Sodwana Bay Guest House.
Slade, who will be defending himself during the trial, recently applied for the matter to be heard by the Constitutional Court, after he was taken to task by iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority and the Department of Tourism.
Slade, together with his Slovakian partner‚ Katarina Krizaniova (27), provided the Umbombo Magistrate’s Court with affidavits and now wait for dates as to when they will meet the applicants in court.
Speaking to the ZO, Slade reiterated his unhappiness with the ‘misconduct’ at the Umbombo Magistrate’s Court, which he claims was initiated against them when Krizaniova was ‘illegally detained’.
‘My wife was illegally detained for eight months; the entire case was totally against the law and the constitution,’ he said.

In August last year Krizaniova was arrested and detained for 33 weeks after police found that she no longer held a valid visa.
Hot water
Slade doesn’t seem to be fazed that no lawyer, neither private nor legal aid, wants to represent him in the case.
He has thus taken the decision to represent himself in the matter.
‘It’s no problem at all (laughs). I am actually looking forward to it so much. I know the law,’ he told the ZO.
Meanwhile Slade could face a fine of up to R50 000 if he is found guilty on charges of hate speech by the Equality Court.
