More than 300 port contractors protest at Richards Bay port
NUMSA led the march from the ZCBF grounds to the port's West Gate entrance

HUNDREDS of port contractors marched between 11am and 2pm today from the ZCBF grounds in Richards Bay to the harbour’s West Gate in protest against alleged corruption, discrimination against women and illegal employment conditions.
The legal and peaceful protest action was led by the National Union of Metalworkers (NUMSA) to hand over a memorandum of the grievances to Transnet Port Terminals (TPT).
NUMSA Richards Bay Secretary Charles Mohlala stated they are ‘fed up with being treated like animals and the majority of contractors do not experience dignity and equality’.
Both TPT and the Transnet National Ports Authority activated business continuity management plans and bolstered security on site for the duration of the picketing.
