Trending #Hashtags/topics this Friday

Two hashtags have taken over social media this week, this is what the people had to say about #MissSAChallange and #BellPottinger

The social media jury is still out on Miss SA Demi Leigh Nel-Peters’ glove-gate and infamous PR firm Bell Pottinger’s apology to South Africans.

Demi-Leigh and Bell Pottinger have come under the social media hammer this week, placing them in the top trends on Twitter.

The current Miss SA received backlash when she was pictured wearing gloves while holding and taking pictures with black children at a pop-up soup kitchen at Orlando West community centre Ikageng in Soweto on Wednesday.

An act which sparked major debate on social media on Thursday and Friday.

In a video posted on her Twitter page, Demi Leigh clarified that all volunteers wore gloves to hand out food to the children and had nothing to do with race.

That didn’t stop Twitter users from taking part in the #MissSAchallenge.

Bell Pottinger apology not enough?

The firm’s apology to South Africans did not go over well with many people who labelled it as ‘fake’.

The UK firm, which has been accused of fueling racial tensions in the country with their PR campaigns for the Gupta family, was roasted on social media for claims that it was misled into dealings with the controversial family.
