OVER the past year the water pipe running underneath our pavement in Bluebook Street, Empangeni, has burst and been repaired, and burst again.
This has happened numerous times and the damage to property in the street is continuous.
Water, sand, mud and rubbish is washed into our yard time and time again and the problem is never finally resolved.
The noise, dust and inconvenience caused by having heavy machinery continuously fixing this problem, in their own time, is becoming intolerable.
Another problem area is Paul Street and the entrance to 5 Ways Spar where the hole in the road is a serious health and safety issue.

Response by City of uMhlathuze Chief Communications Officer: Vukile Mathabela
The problem in Bluebook Street has been identified and measures have been put in place to fix the pipes and avoid any water damage to the properties.
An air valve has been installed to reduce pressure which will prevent the number of burst pipes. However, the construction will be done in our 2014/2015 financial year.
Our investigation on Paul Street has found that one of the restaurants has connected to the storm water system instead of the sewer. Notice was given to the owner by the Building Inspector on 7 November to correct the connection.
The holes at the entrance of the 5 Ways Spar is due to Telkom, and as soon as the project is complete the holes will be filled and the road will be fixed.
