Empangeni water system upgrade will take time

'The city is currently still operating at half water pressure and will continue to do so for the time being' said city spokesperson Mdu Ncalane

EMPANGENI residents will have to wait a while longer before a total overhaul of water infrastructure within residential areas will be undertaken.

The city of uMhlathuze has issued a R40-million tender to replace the main water line from Empangeni to Ngwelezana – a project that is currently underway and will see the old asbestos pipes upgraded and replaced with thicker, plastic pipes which have a longer ‘shelf’ life

However a number of residential areas have been highlighted as problem locations that need major attention.
