Must win game for the Mancosa Rhinos

Mancosa Rhinos are still in the running for a top six finish with just two games to go

DESPITE a humiliating 138-7 trouncing by unbeaten Fidelity Security Moor Cup log leaders Collegians in Durban on Friday evening, Mancosa Rhinos are still in the running for a top six finish with just two games to go.

The local outfit, coached by Charles Mndaweni, will take on Varsity College at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday, before finishing their campaign against Newcastle Highlanders in Newcastle the following Saturday.

They are currently on 19 points after eight games.

Even if the Rhinos lose this weekend but manage to pick up a bonus point, they will keep their hopes alive, but then need to drill Newcastle to finish on a high and secure their spot without having to rely on other results to keep them safe..

Rhinos fielded a poor side against Collegians and picked up more injuries, making Mndaweni’s job a nightmare.

They local club even failed to field a second team for the clash on Friday evening and forfeited their points.

Kick-offs are scheduled for 2pm and 3.30pm on Saturday at Mick Kelly and the outcome will be crucial as far as the Rhinos are concerned.
Mndaweni knows what is required of his troops.

‘Ending in the top six makes one’s life easier knowing that your Premier League status is secure for 2018. Being in the bottom five puts pressure on the squad as you need to win all your games to remain in the league. Obviously it’s a long season and injuries do not help one’s cause,’ said Mndaweni.
