Richards Bay Rotary donates wheelchairs to the needy

One of the recipients was an 80-year-old woman who lives by herself and has nothing

THE Rotary Club of Richards Bay, in partnership with Bearing Man Group (BMG), handed over 10 wheelchairs to disabled and elderly community members on Thursday.

Attended by iNdunas, iNkosi and Tribal Council members in the RBM area, the donation, which coincided with Africa Day on Thursday, brought smiles to the recipients.

‘It was a humbling experience and an honour to help make a difference to the lives of the recipients and their support base,’ BMG Regional Manager Arthur Gray said.

One of the recipients was an 80-year-old woman who was brought to the Rotary Club by Correctional Service Officers who had found her living in a mud house on her own.

‘When asked who looked after her, she said that some nights the neighbours would pop in to give her some food. She has nothing,’ Gray said.

Gray, on behalf of BMG and Rotary Richards Bay, thanked the community for their support in helping them give back to those in need.
