WITH the tertiary application process an annual hell run for many high school pupils, Ngwelezana student Slindile Mbatha has introduced a local initiative to assist Zululand learners with higher education registration.
The Black Child Let’s Study Initiative (BCLSI) is a programme which supports learners with necessary application information and guides them through the registration process.
It encourages Grade 12 learners to apply on time, teaches them about various bursary schemes and also provides studying tips.
‘Most Grade 12 pupils apply late and are denied entry to various institutions. The BCLSI programme helps them with Central Application Office (CAO) forms and how to complete them,’ said Slindile.
The initiative also focuses on ensuring pupils have necessary credit points which are accepted by higher institutions.
‘Some are denied entry owing to their matric results. We always encourage them to upgrade their subjects through well-respected and legitimate finishing schools or even go back to school and acquire those accepted symbols.
‘We want to bring information to the people and ensure they understand opportunities available to them and how to acquire them.’
Through the programme’s Reading Centre, learners also receive assistance on their assignments and studying towards examinations and class tests.
