Sunken ‘Wagtail’ temporarily grounded

An investigation is underway to establish the cause of its sinking

THE Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) struggled for eight hours on Friday to successfully salvage the boat that sank at the Tuzi Gazi Small Craft Harbour early last Sunday.

TNPA said ‘Wagtail’ will remain on the platform at the marina ‘to drain out’ before handing it back to its owner, who was informed of the incident last week.

An investigation is underway to establish the cause of its sinking.

On discovering the submerged boat in front of the Dros restaurant last weekend, SAPS Operational Response Services divers were called in to confirm no victims were on board.

The boat was then towed to a quayside where a crane stood ready to hoist the damaged structure from the seabed once weather conditions improved.
