DESPITE the annual fishing Bonanza being affected by bad weather over the weekend, ski boat anglers have been catching large numbers of big game fish, with the rock and surf anglers having to scratch for decent catches along the KZN shoreline.
Ski boaters in the Sodwana and Maphelane areas have been quite successful with reports of Couta, Tuna and large numbers of Snoek being caught with strip and live baits and occasionally hard plastics.
The bigger Tuna are predominantly being caught with poppers, while the Snoek have been coming out on artificial baits and very small rattlers.
Bottom fishing along Zinkwazi proceeds to be good with a wide variety of fish being caught daily.
For those willing to drive the extra mile for a decent fight, Cape Vidal has been producing some nice sized Raggies, with lots of edible fish like Kingies and Three Spot Pompanos being landed on drop shots.
Great news for locals is that Richards Bay north seems to be the place to hang out, with some beautiful specimens of Pompano coming out on Sealice.
One needs abrasive resistant line as they are hard fighters and are often found near rocks busting on Mussels beds.
Richards Bay south on the other hand has been producing loads of Spinner Sharks for anglers using Chokka baits.
