A 31-year-old man was kidnapped and robbed of his cash and belongings by three gun-wielding robbers in eSikhaleni at 2am on Tuesday.
The victim was confronted just after he withdrew an undisclosed amount of cash at an ATM.
According to the police, the robbers tied him up with ropes before forcing him into his own vehicle and driving off.
After taking his cash and cellphone, they later threw him out into the bushes outside the township, leaving him stranded and fearing for his life.
A case has been opened at the eSikhaleni police and no arrests have yet been made.
‘We appeal to anyone in the community who may assist us with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects, to contact the police,’ KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Bheki Langa said.
According to eSikhawini police, robberies are on the rise in the area.
They have warned residents to be vigilant at night, especially when driving alone.
‘Residents must try and avoid ATMs at night,’ said eSikhawini spokesperson, Capt Thembinkosi Mkhumane.
He said police patrols are conducted in areas such as the township’s mall and other crime hotpots.
