
IN the four days preceding Human Rights Day, one man was shot dead, another stabbed multiple times and four alcohol-related assaults took place in and around Richards Bay.
At 9pm on Friday night a man was fatally shot in the chest in his room at a Mzingazi guest house.
His stepdaughter, who had briefly stepped outside to fetch water, heard the gunshot and rushed inside to find the 56-year-old dead on the floor.
On Monday night a pedestrian was attacked by a group of knife-wielding assailants along Guldengracht street.
He was brought to the Richards Bay police station with multiple stab wounds and was rushed to Ngwelezana Hospital.
The motive for the stabbing remains unknown. A case of attempted murder was opened.
On Saturday and Sunday night, police were also called to four alcohol-related domestic assaults that took place in Brackenham, at Taxi City, in Madlazini and Veldenvlei.
Cases of assault were opened.
