WATCH: Human Rights Day drowning in Richards Bay

One body was recovered, the other still missing despite a thorough search

THE body of a drown victim was retrieved Tuesday evening and another man is missing after a drowning incident at Alkantstrand Beach.

The incident occurred at about 6pm last night  when the two men were reportedly bowled over by a large wave and swept out by the under current.

When emergency services arrived on scene, the body of one of the men had been pulled out of the water.

Paramedics attempted to revive the man but there were no signs of life.

NSRI Richards Bay despatched a rescue boat which searched for the second victim until night fell, to no avail.

One of the men is believed to be from Vryburg in the Northern Cape and the other from India.
