LOCAL western style rider Samantha Swanepoel and her trusty steed Bubbly Buddy hit top form to win an international event while representing the South African open women’s team at the Hoëveld Landboufees in Ermelo last weekend .
This was the first year in the history of the sport that the South African Western Mounted Games Association (SAWMGA) selected a national side.
Swanepoel, who rides for Dayspring Farm Yard, has been doing western riding for the past 11 years.
She has been competing in SAWMGA events for the past four years.
Last year she represented the KZN team at the nationals in Pretoria in which more than 300 riders competed. KZN placed third out of the nine competing provinces.
The SA team selected to compete at last weekend’s international against Zimbabwe and Swaziland consisted of 30 riders.
The SA open ladies team managed to score 36 points to claim the overall win, followed by Zimbabwe in second with a score of 16 points.
