UPDATE: Drunk driver claim after cycle crash
Man down as Argus riders are hit by car on the John Ross Parkway

THE driver who crashed into the tail end of a group of early Saturday morning cyclists training for the Cape Argus, reportedly fled the scene in an apparent drunken attempt to escape.
The cyclists were travelling eastwards towards the Foskor robots on the John Ross Parkway, followed by an escort vehicle with flashing emergency lights.
It is reported a car overtook the escort vehicle into oncoming traffic and swerved back in front of it, smashing into the last cyclist, Neil McMaster and into Daniel Titus.
‘We understand the offending driver failed to stop and was chased by an Indian gentleman on a motorbike.
‘He apprehended him and brought him back to the scene of the accident.’
The police were on scene quickly and it is reported a breathalyser test showed the man to be way above the legal blood alcohol limit.
‘Whoever the biker was, I really want to thank him,’ said Neil’s wife Virna, who accompanied him to hospital in Umhlanga where he is in a serious but stable condition.
‘Besides two compressed vertebrae, he has a seeping gash on his head that might require an MRI scan in the morning, and a number of other cuts and scrapes.
‘But being the person he is, his biggest complaint is the smashed cycle and the fact he will miss the Argus.
‘Our family appreciates the many well-wishers who have made contact and offered support on social media.’
