Unemployed youth get fire training

Boosting fire fighting capabilities

THE KwaZulu-Natal Working on Fire (WoF) region recently recruited unemployed youth to supplement the fire fighting teams across the province.

In its efforts to restore dignity, WoF prides itself by positively impacting unemployment by hiring and training unemployed youth to implement integrated fire management around their homes.

The latest recruits will ensure that all teams in the province are at full strength as they prepare for the upcoming winter fire season.

KZN General Manager, Winnie Ndlovu said: ‘This process assists us to make sure that all the teams are at full strength at all times.’

Training

WoF has hired 34 new participants who will undergo 25 days of vigorous training at the Training Academy in Nelspruit.

This includes advanced fire fighting, fire safety and other specialised skills to inspire discipline.

‘The rest of the participants in the province will be attending the annual Yellow Card Training Camp starting on 1 April.

‘This is a refresher course which, if passed, certifies them to support local fire authorities during veld and forestry fire incidents,’says Ndlovu.
