Creative hub for local youth
Music professor to open music and film facility for Zululand's talented youngsters
AFTER teaching music for decades, musicology expert Professor Musa Xulu wants to use his expertise to empower the local youth.
This well known music expert will officially open the first music and film studio in Empangeni next Thursday.
With the facility he hopes to educate the youth about the industry and open opportunities for talented youngsters across the region.
The House of Shaka studios will give the youth much needed training and a platform to showcase their work.
‘It is time we do things at home and empower our own people. Our talented musicians normally record their work in house studios and that work never gets the exposure it deserves,’ said Xulu.
‘In this facility we will provide quality sound where musicians can record demos and filmmakers can do their work.
‘We have massive talent in this region and we need to make sure we work towards empowering them.
‘Our talent ends up in Johannesburg and other big cities because there is no platform in the area,’ he said.
Xulu is already working towards an arts festival to be staged in September.
This will include theatre, music, traditional dance and film.
