Copper thieves attempt bribing their way out of cuffs

Arrested for possession of over four tons of copper railway lines, the two suspects attempted to bribe a Richards Bay policeman to drop the matter.

Richards Bay SAPS spokesperson Captain Debbie Ferreira said the men were arrested at an Alton scrap metal dealer on Wednesday at 11am.

They were attempting to sell 4.3tons of railway lines and following the arrest tried to entice the officer with a bribe to have the charges dropped.

They face charges of possession of suspected stolen property and bribery.
