Heavy rains hit Zululand as effects of Dineo felt
Heavy rains, slight flooding and humid conditions in Zululand as a direct result of tropical storm Dineo

IT seems as if Zululanders’ prayers have somewhat paid off as the effects of Cyclone Dineo, which has since been downgraded to a tropical storm after making landfall in Mozambique yesterday, are being seen and felt in certain areas in the region.
The Empangeni Search and Rescue Unit have been dispatched to the uMkhanyakude district (Mtubatuba, Jozini) where they will be on high alert for the next few days, as affects of Dineo are felt in the area.
While Dineo is expected to disseminate as it moves further inland, areas in Zululand experienced short bursts of heavy rains this morning as a direct result of the tropical storm.
The ZO reported on Monday that the South African Weather Service (SAWS) confirmed that the region would receive a decent amount of rain from today (Thursday) going into tomorrow (Friday).
Warm ocean feels
Meanwhile bodyboarders in Richards Bay were checking out the super waves at Newark Beach this morning.
Tide, wind and sea conditions combined to create some huge wave action for those who were brave enough to tackle the surf.
On the positive side, sea temperatures are around 21 degrees and with it being possibly the most humid day this summer, the ocean was the best place to be.
KZN Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube addressed the media in Durban yesterday stating that the uMkhanyakude and Zululand district were most likely to be affected by Cyclone Dineo.
In turn the King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM) noted that they are ready to deal with any form of flooding or disaster.
‘KCDM will be on high alert and communities are urged to use our Disaster Management Comms Centre to report any incidents.
‘The number for the centre is 086 100 3473, which covers the uMfolozi, Mthonjaneni and Nkandla municipal areas.
‘The direct line for uMhlathuze is 035 797 3911 and uMlalazi is 035 450 7691, who have their own disaster management departments,’ said Naidoo.
