TO meet the demand of the ever growing population, the City of uMhlathuze has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering houses to its people.
This emerged during the Ward 27 War Room meeting held last week at Ngwelezana Auditorium, which was addressed by the city’s Project Officer Ntobeko Nzimande.
According to Nzimande, the city has delivered about 1000 RDP houses in the Madlebe Traditional Authority alone, as part of accommodating rural communities.
‘We have also provided low cost housing for Dumisani Makhaye Village residents and started a programme for rental housing units, as the city keeps attracting more people who are here for work purposes only, and they too need to be housed,’ he said.

Nzimande also warned against fraudulent practises by those who want to benefit from low cost housing.
‘As a city we remain committed to root out any elements of corruption attached to any housing project. Those who want to register for low cost housing must not tell a lie, because they will be caught. The city will devise a new mechanism to determine the rightful beneficiaries for the low cost housing, a process that will be fair to everyone,’ he said.
Nzimande said the municipality was working on a housing development for Empangeni Mega Project, Dumisani Makhaye Village and Aquadene in Richards Bay.
‘We don’t have any rural housing project at the moment, except the Luwamba and Bhuchanana projects, as these areas were previously under the now defunct Ntambanana Municipality,’ he said.
