‘Hellkom’ service for Empangeni family
An Empangeni family are at odds ends after numerous attempts of having their Telkom landline fixed have fallen upon deaf ears

TROUBLESOME Telkom has once again reared its head and lived up to its parody name of Hellkom, according to an Empangeni family.
Speaking to the ZO, an irritated Claire Duckenfield complained they have had a problem with their telephone line since November last year.
‘We haven’t been able to use our landline as when you pick up the phone there is an horrendous cracking sound that pierces through your eardrum,’ she said.
After numerous attempts to determine the actual cause of the problem, Claire has been left as clueless as the sub-contractors who visited her home to find the problem.
‘We’ve had two separate sub-contractors visit our home on different occasions.
‘One woman told me it was an underground cable problem and on the second occasion another told me it was because a telephone pole fallen over.
‘There’s no feedback, which angers us the most.

‘They even suggested we get on to LTE but then they tell us that our area he no coverage to use those means of connection. .
‘Unfortunately we use this line for our business which means that it directly affects us,’ she said.
Hellkom is an Internet parody site about South Africa’s telecommunications monopoly, Telkom.
It was started by Gregg Stirton in June 2004 as a protest to the parastatal’s excessive pricing for its services, although it has been used as a means to refer to Telkom’s poor customer service.
