KwaDukuza emergency personnel honoured
ROLE players tasked with law enforcement and emergency services have been commended by KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayor Cllr Ricardo Mthembu for their dedication and commitment to ensuring peace and stability.
At a special luncheon held at the KDM Municipal Hall, Mthembu said: ‘Today we pay tribute to the men and women who work under difficult conditions to ensure there is stability within our communities.
‘These dedicated officials make life-threatening sacrifices, which many of us take for granted.
‘Therefore, as the council, we do feel a sense of indebtedness to these agencies for their sacrifices and dedication to peace and stability.
‘Unity and cooperation will always rest at the centre of our strength, if we are to win the fight against crime,’ Mthembu said.
Attracting investment
Mthembu further expressed a necessity for peace and stability in order to attract more investors to the KDM to boost the local economy.
‘KwaDukuza is an area of investment, it cannot become a breeding ground for violent crimes and no one would want to invest in an economy controlled by criminals.
‘KwaDukuza is the economic hub of iLembe District and provides a link between eThekwini and uMhlathuze Corridor, which are two of the major economies in the province,’ he added.
‘It is now evident through our partnerships, we are turning the tide against violent crimes and drinking and driving, according to the reported statistics following the festive season.
‘I have said time and again we have placed a high priority on domestic violence and violent crimes.
The partnerships in law enforcement agencies hold true to this.’
Mthembu added there is a need to mobilise communities to ensure there is no space for criminality within them.
‘We are in a democracy; we need public officials who have patriotic pride, dedication and commitment to the creation of safe and secure environments’, Mthembu stressed.
