A cuppa tea for a child
Support a schoolgoing child by attending the Amangwe Village Ladies Tea at the Protea Hotel uMfolozi River on Saturday
LADIES are encouraged to invest in the education of an underprivileged child by supporting the Amangwe Village ladies tea at the Protea Hotel uMfolozi River on Saturday at 10am.
Promising to be an entertaining morning in a tranquil setting, Zululand Observer Managing Director and patron of Amangwe Village, Regina Anthony, will be the esteemed guest speaker at the fund-raising event.
‘Reg Anthony served for many years on the Amangwe Village Management Committee and was instrumental in the development of the services at Amangwe, but more so at the crèche,’ said Manager Erna Steynberg.
‘The aim of the Amangwe crèche is to provide a conducive, safe and secure environment for children to develop holistically. The children are exposed to stimulation programmes that will prepare them for formal education and their development as individuals,’ added Steynberg.
At Saturday’s tea, children of the crèche will display their talents in a fun-filled line-up, while ladies can look forward to lucky ticket giveaways, goodie bags and gifts specially made by the children.
Owner of Trelique Models, Angelique Wright, will keep guests entertained as programme director while guests can expect an exciting new feature this year as models take to the catwalk showcasing the latest summer fashion. Tickets cost R100 per person.
Adoptive parents
With the Department of Social Development (DSD) contributing R15 per day towards the education of each child, Amangwe Village is dependent on adoptive parents to help subsidise schooling costs.
At a cost of R475 per child per month, Zululanders can adopt a schoolgoing child at Amangwe or subsidise a toddler with a contribution of R100 a month.
‘The crèche depends largely on the subsidy given by DSD, crèche fees from parents and the goodwill of the community,’ said Steynberg.
‘The R15 per child per day from DSD only applies if the child is present at school. If they are absent or it is a holiday period, we do not receive a subsidy. Amangwe still has expenses so we are pressured to find additional funding.’

Greetings from Australia. As co-founder, past CEO and past-Chairman of the ZCBF, I would very much like to contribute a donation of R1000 from abroad to the morning tea and fundraising effort, with a special acknowledgement to Reg Anthony for her tireless commitment to community and her inspiration to others to get involved. It has been an honour to know her, work with her and count her among my friends! Please could someone e-mail me the bank account details where I can make this donation in support of the morning tea where Reg will be speaking?
Sincerely
Annalie Killian
