WHEN Sipho Majola heard there were good jobs being offered, he wasted no time making contact with the advertiser.
The would-be ‘employer’ had been urgently seeking people to ‘start immediately’, as he had to fill positions for a new contract he had acquired.
This included drivers, cleaners and a receptionist.
‘Although I do have a job, I was looking for better long-term prospects as a driver,’ said Sipho.
‘I called the number I was given and the man seemed genuine.
‘Even though I don’t have a PDP, he said he would make a plan and take me on.
‘However, I needed to send him money for a medical and for protective clothing.
‘I fell for it and from a store I transferred R2 000 to his cell phone number.’
This was on 28 December and, needless to say, Sipho still waits in hope that the job will materialize.
‘He does still answer his phone and he promises to refund my money, but I doubt it,’ says Sipho.
‘I am going to make a plan to track him down.’
