Hijackings pick up again
eShowe SAPS say the hijackers appear to be active between 6am and 9am and again between 3pm and 7pm.
THE new year has seen an increase in hijackings on the R66, R34 and P230, with the latest incident occurring on Thursday.
A woman travelling on the R34 was hijacked in the Dukaneni Area at around 4.30pm after her vehicle was rammed by the driver of a white van.
When she stopped, an unknown number of men with firearms ran towards her, while others approached her from the side.
The suspects took the vehicle, a Corsa Lite and fled towards Empangeni.
The car was recovered by eShowe SAPS members Cst DS Ntuli and Cst R Naidoo, and Empangeni SAPS who responded to the incident.
No arrests have been made.
Since the beginning of the year, hijackers have been targetting women driving along the R34, R66 and the P230, stopping and stealing vehicles at the hitching spots.
One such incident occurred on Monday last week when Khomo Primary School principal, Busisiwe Nzuza (44) was shot inside her car on the R66 at Nkwalini.
She was shot in the head by an unknown male passenger after she had offered him a ride from Empangeni.
eShowe SAPS say the hijackers appear to be active between 6am and 9am and again between 3pm and 7pm.
KZN government vehicles are still the most wanted.
