A HOSTAGE situation is underway at the BMA Medical Centre in Richards Bay after two men commandeered a crane on the construction site for reasons unknown.
All rescue and emergency services are on scene with the IPSS and SAPS hostage negotiation team busy trying to establish contact.
According to reports, two persons entered the crane on Sunday and when workmen arrived on site this morning, they refused to come out holding the crane driver hostage.

Police are trying to unlock the door of the crane. The men are reportedly barricaded in the tower crane six floors up.
The busy street has been cordoned amid fears of potential serious damage to life and property.
