Woman sells ammunition to earn a living

The house was searched and 215 live shotgun rounds were found

AN intelligence driven operation was conducted over the weekend to clamp down on cross border crimes and the hijacking of vehicles in the uMkhanyakude area.

On Saturday, members of the Public Order Policing Unit, Tactical Response Team and South African National Defence Force were deployed in the area following information about ammunition that was being kept in a house in the eManguzi area.

The house was searched and 215 live shotgun rounds were found.

When the resident, a 44-year-old woman, was questioned about the ammunition, she said she got the ammunition from Mozambique and was selling it for a living.

The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of ammunition without a licence.

She appeared in the eManguzi Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa said members will continue with their crime prevention duties in uMkhanyakude Cluster in an attempt to prevent cross border crimes.
