Fruitful CPF year draws to a close

CPF celebrates solid year of action

‘WE call on the Station Commander to take decisive action against police members reported to be involved in illegal drug and alcohol incidents.’

That was the message from Richards Bay CPF Chairman Robert Mbuyazi at a year-end function held at the police station on Thursday.

‘Such people cast a negative light on what has been a positive year for the SAPS and CPF partnership.

‘We have seen more patrols conducted and much higher police visibility, which is what the public wants,’ said Mbuyazi.

‘Dawn raids led by Brigadier Mgenge saw numerous arrests while the rebirth of the Brackenham and Birdswood sub-forums were also highlights.

‘Meerensee sub-forum was particularly active and we have also enjoyed good support from the corporate community via Zululand Business Against Crime.’

Brig Mgenge was unstinting in her appreciation and praise for all the sub-forums, singling out a number of individuals who led the way.

‘We can celebrate our joint efforts – but this is not the end of our year’s work.

‘We go into the busiest season of the year and we will be prepared to handle the demands of festive season crimes,’ said Mgenge.

Invited to address the meeting, BAC head Dave Whittaker called for more attention to be paid regarding crimes committed against businesses.

‘Both the police and the municipality have the duty of guarding the lives and property of business.

‘Failure to do so will result in extra costs and losses that could ultimately mean the company must close its doors,’ said Whittaker.
