Two critical after Bay Hall near drowning

Mathe could not confirm witness reports that both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time.

PARAMEDICS have confirmed that two men, between 18 and 20 years old, are in a critical but stable condition following a near drowning at the Bay Hall in Richards Bay last week.

Spokeswoman for Netcare 911, Athlenda Mathe on Sunday said the incident occurred at around 6pm.

‘The men were both stabilised on scene and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care,’ she said.

Mathe could not confirm witness reports that both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Beachgoers are urged to bear in mind that there are no permanent life guards stationed at Bay Hall.

Authorities have confirmed there will be full-time life guards on duty in the area over the festive season from 10 December.
