‘PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma was elected by the branches of the ANC countrywide in Mangaung to lead the movement for the next five years, and that term ends in 2017.’
This sentiment was expressed by ANC Musa Dladla Regional Chairperson Nonhle Mkhulisi when addressing the 5th regional congress of the ANC Youth League at the University of Zululand’s Richards Bay campus at th weekend.
Mkhulisi said those who are calling for Zuma’s removal must ‘take a breath and cool down,’ because the ANC President was here to stay.
‘No amount of noise, whether from within or outside the movement, will detract us from changing the lives of the people, a project which is led by President Zuma himself.
‘No one will remove Zuma, except the branches of the ANC when his term of office ends next year.’
Mkhulisi urged the Youth League to be vigilant of any ‘foreign tendencies that want to find space in the ANC’.
‘Let us close ranks and defend the movement, including President Zuma, who is under siege. Refuse to be used by those who want to divide the movement. As the Youth League you should be able to define yourself from the rest of ordinary young people. We expect you to be militant, but this militancy must never be accompanied by lack of order and ill discipline.
‘We will be failing if we don’t stress the need for education. We must remember that the call for economic freedom will not come on a silver platter.’
The two-day regional congress unanimously elected Phiwe Mhlongo as the new chairperson. The other office bearers are Njabulo Ntuli (Deputy Chairperson), Nkosinathi Xulu (Secretary), Nonkululeko Malinga (Deputy Secretary) and Bongani Mjadu (Treasurer).
