UPDATE: Protest at RBM comes to an end
The demonstrators blocked the smelter and haulage roads with logs

A PROTEST led by a group of KwaMbonambi youth demanding permanent jobs at Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), ended on Tuesday morning after having disrupted the company’s mining operations since Friday.
The demonstrators blocked the smelter and haulage roads with logs, compelling employees to wait at the ZCBF Business Park until the access roads to RBM was declared safe for travel.
Both the SAPS and RBM security team patrolled the area to ensure the safety of staff on site and to clear the roads.
No incidents or injuries were reported.
RBM said management had met with the group, who committed to engage with the company through appropriate communication structures instead of protest action.
