Job seekers protest at RBM

The group of youths have demonstrated several times this year

KWAMBONAMBI community members once again protested at Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) on Friday, blocking both access routes to the mineral sands mine.

The group of youths have demonstrated several times this year demanding permanent employment at the company.

‘Our security team along with the South African Police Services are in the area to ensure the safety of our employees and trying to clear the roads,’ said the company in a statement on Friday.

‘Once the situation has normalised, we will continue to engage through the established structures to understand and address the issues which are being raised by community members.’

KwaMbonambi SAPS spokesperson Captain Nkosingiphile Mthethwa said the group was not violent and no arrests were made by late Friday afternoon.
