Citizens have many gripes about governance

STEVEN MAKHANYA hit the streets of Empangeni to determine what the people think of service delivery, fraud, corruption and crime in Zululand.

Sandile Mthethwa of Sgisi, Ngwelezane 'It is high time government kicked out corrupt officials and replace them with credible people who will do justice to their work they were elected for. People are afraid of voicing their dissatisfaction for fear of victimisation, and that's not the way a democratic country should be run'

Wendy O'Reilly of Empangeni'Unless the government is challenged and people begin to voice their unhappiness about poor service delivery, things will not change. The government must get rid of its corrupt officials and replace them with people who will do their jobs. To not vote is not an answer; people must vote, but must put the correct people in power'

Margaret Trigwell of Empangeni 'I'm 'gatvol' with the way things are done within the uMhlathuze Municipality. Crime has reached huge proportions in this country. I'm even afraid to go out at night for fear of getting mugged. Unemployment is another cause for concern. Everywhere you look there are loads of people loitering on the street corners causing danger to motorists.

Zama Dubazane of Ngwelezane 'Ward councilors must be more visible to the people in their wards, more especially the young people who find themselves left in the lurch with no information about programmes for the youth or matters like bursaries. As a result they end up getting involved in doing drugs and crime
