Up close and personal with Thami Shobede
ZO journalist Wellington Makwakwa, enjoyed a friendly chat with the muso

The Zululand Observer had an exclusive interview with South African Idols top 3 finalist Thami Shobede from Ngwelezana.
ZO journalist Wellington Makwakwa, enjoyed a friendly chat with the muso, talking about his journey to the top and plans for the future.
ZO : Congratulations on making it this far and flying the Zululand flag high. How are you feeling at the moment now that you have made it to the top 3?
Thami : It’s a dream come true and I can’t thank my fans enough for voting for me.
ZO : Last year you entered the competition and eliminated after reaching the top 16. What did you do differently this year?
Thami : I think this year I was more focused and can now deal with the demands and stress that comes with the competition. And, of course, I wanted to prove to myself I can do it.
ZO : It’s been months away from home and working hard, how has the experience been for you?
Thami : It’s been amazing, having to perform for South Africans week after week. For me the support is the highlight of my journey. Knowing there are people out there who support and believe in me is overwhelming.
ZO : And of course the glamourous life that comes with it…
Thami : Yes, of course. The radio, television and newspaper interviews as well as the trip to New York was just amazing. But it’s not about just fun, it’s about hard work, dedication and long hours. We sometimes have two hours of sleep trying to learn the songs to ensure we give South Africans our best performances every Sunday.
ZO : At the moment you seem to be SA’s favourite. Do you think you will take the overall prize and become the next Idol
Thami : The plan is to win, but there are three of us at this stage and they are all talented and aiming for the top spot.
ZO : What would you say to Zululanders and all your fan, with only two weeks left?
Thami : Thank you for all your support. I would not have made it this far if it wasn’t for you. I appreciate each and every one of you and the love you give me. All I can ask now is to please continue supporting me as I aim to bring the title home.
