ADDITIONAL police deployment in uMkhanyakude District areas continues to bear fruit regarding cross-border crimes in the northern parts of KZN.
On Sunday members of the Public Order Police and Tactical Response Team arrested four suspects found in possession of counterfeit goods at Mbazwana.
Following concerns from the community in the uMkhanyakude area pertaining rampant hijackings and other cross-border crimes in the area, KZN police management deployed additional police to patrol there.
It is reported the police spotted four vehicles along the R22 road at Mbazwana while performing crime prevention duties in the early hours of Sunday morning.
When they pulled over the vehicles, they discovered they were loaded with counterfeit goods.
The occupants failed to provide the police with a satisfactory explanation as to how they got hold of the items and were arrested.
The accused, aged between 23 and 37, appeared in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, charged with possession of counterfeit goods.
According to KZN police spokesperson Lt Col Thulani Zwane the case was struck off the roll, but might be re-instated if new evidence surfaces.
