‘How is cemetery revenue 40% below budget – are people no longer dying?’

KING Cetshwayo District Municipality councillors are not letting shrinking revenue figures fall through the cracks.

At Wednesday’s Exco meeting Councillor Ivan Naidoo questioned why, for the period of July, revenue from a number of service charges fell significantly below their proportional budgets.

According to the agenda figures, the district’s income from water was down by 35%, solid waste (refuse) by 28% and by far the worst, cemetery revenue dropped by 40%.

‘The water revenue also speaks of water losses.These are all concerns.

‘Revenue is the milk of business, and this is a business.

‘Maybe things could improve on a global scale with Trump stepping in as president, but in this district, we need to find out why these revenues decreased.’

The report submitted via the Financial Services Portfolio Committee stated the declines in water consumption have been evident in the past few months owing to the severe drop in water stocks.
