Thami guns for top Idols spot

Thami is living his idols dream

After failing to reach the final round of South African Idols last year, Thami Shobede has returned to the popular show with all guns blazing this year, shooting for the number one spot this time round.

On Sunday the Ngwelezana hopeful reached the top 4 of SA Idols, and was granted an opportunity to jet off to New York.

He received one of the highest votes from the public after he left his heart and soul on stage last Sunday.

Before leaving for the Big Apple, he firstly took centre stage as part of the top 4 and stunned his mentor Khaya Mthethwa, as well as other contestants.

At the moment, this local music man is regarded as South Africa’s favourite and a man with the potential to take the overall prize.

Despite his childhood hardships, through hard work and dedication Thami is now flying the Zululand flag high.
‘It’s a dream come true,’ says Thami.

Thami started singing at an early age and it was a way of escaping his tough life.

He was greatly influenced in music during his high school days at Mthengeni High School in Mandeni.

‘One of my teacher’s inspired me and taught me to be a visionary,’ he said.

It was in church where Thami started showcasing his talent, learning the technical skills and five years later, he entered Idols in 2015 where he succeeded, reaching the top 16.

‘From being a rural Zululand boy with nothing but a face and a voice to represent my background and my people, my experience shows that all is possible,’

His sound is that of Afro pop and Afro soul, but his versatility is seen through working with artists from 999 Records and Kalawa.
