East3Route expedition builds tourism networks
Tour guides discover new locations for tours

A CONVOY of over 250 people made up this year’s East3Route Expedition, a tourism journey from Mozambique, through Swaziland and ending in South Africa.
The Seychelles were also invited to attend the expedition this year, becoming the fourth member of the initiative.
‘The expedition is a chance to cross borders between the countries and promote tourism opportunities,’ said KZN Tourism’s Mpume Sibiya. ‘It also promotes networking opportunities.’
KwaBulawayo Cultural Centre, Shakaland Zulu Cultural Village and the Fort Nongqayi Museum Village in eShowe were chosen as the three stops the convoy would visit in KwaZulu-Natal.
National tour guide Barry Fuller joined the expedition to discover new locations he could recommend for tours.
‘We have seen a growing trend of people looking for cultural places, rather than commercial.
‘We’re trying to get people to access these places, so this has been a great success,’ he said.
The delegation slept over in Richards Bay and ended the expedition with a gala dinner.
The East3Route Expedition is currently in its third year of operation.
