ESIKHALENI residents learned about living a healthy lifestyle during the Health Awareness and Aerobics event at Hlanganani Community Hall on Saturday.
The purpose was to promote a healthy lifestyle and empower residents with the knowledge on how to eat healthy and the benefits of exercise.
‘People need to be encouraged to exercise to take care of their health – from eating the right food to knowing various exercises that could be beneficial to their bodies.
‘Exercise does not only help the body but the mind as well. We introduced aerobics and various body workouts that residents can practice in their own homes,’ said organiser, Muzi Gumede of Bhekithembe Drugs and Substance Abuse Organisation.
This community programme not only included education on nutrition and exercise, but substance and drug awareness was also the important part of the campaign.
‘Youngsters need to know about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and other harmful substances. Drug abuse in this region is on the rise, and we want youngsters to know that they can do other things which will be more beneficial to them,’ said Gumede.
