Beef up security at the Waterfront

Relevant authorities must step in immediately to ensure that these sporadic incidents cease

THE City of uMhlathuze is trying its best to improve the aesthetics of the Tuzi Gazi Waterfront and to vigorously promote it as a prime tourism attraction in Richards Bay.

Just last week, world planners descended on the Waterfront to come up with unique designs to turn the steel bridge into an iconic landmark.

But the recent bloody brawls taking place at the popular recreational spot every week is negating every good effort to market the area effectively.

Relevant authorities must step in immediately to ensure that these sporadic incidents cease.

Visible patrolling is the only way forward as these violent attacks are occurring on a regular basis and deter families and tourists from visiting our town.

The Durban beachfront is a case in point where visible policing by the Metro Police has ensured that adults, children and tourists alike can take strolls, roller blade or even cycle in the area day or night without fear.

Urgent intervention is needed by both city and policing structures before the situation worsens beyond repair.
