New executive to boost Bay growth

RBIDZ announces new executive manager for business development and support

NTWANANO Mtungwa has succeeded in many missions he undertook around the world to attract direct foreign investment for massive developments, such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup infrastructure projects.

He is now setting his sights on fast-tracking economic game-changers for the city of uMhlathuze.

The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone (RBIDZ) recently welcomed Mtungwa on board as executive manager for business development and support to attract high tech value-added industries to transform the economic landscape of the city.

‘My aim is to position the RBIDZ as a premier investment destination and an attractive export trade route for local value-added products through cooperation with industry associations, foreign economic offices, development funders and local business chambers,’ said Mtungwa.

‘I am also involved in various community organisations dedicated to the development of the youth and small businesses.’

He started his flourishing career as trade and investment advisor, and eventually investments manager at the Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency before taking on the role of head of investment facilitation at the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency.

Not only was he responsible for local sector development and foreign direct investment facilitation, but also the implementation of the Gauteng’s transformation, modernization and re-industrialisation (TMR) strategy.

He was involved in setting up and managing the Gauteng Investment Centre (GIC) – the first investor one-stop shop in the country.

He also facilitated investments in new city nodes such as Zendai Modderfontien and Waterfall Park in Midrand, and worked on biogas energy projects for the automotive sector, initiatives for fuel cell technology and processing municipal waste to energy.

The father of two has a BCom degree in economics, marketing, development economics and public administration from the University of Limpopo, a certificate in project management from the University of Witwatersrand and is currently studying for his Master’s degree in business administration at the Regenesys Business School.
