Thami lives his idols dream

Thami is on the South African Idols top 10 list

FROM pushing trolleys to make ends meet, to singing to millions of fans on South Africa’s biggest stage, Thami Shobede (28) is living his Idols dream.

After failing to reach the final round of South African Idols last year, the local musician is singing his way to the top and making a mark in the industry.

On Sunday, the Ngwelezane singer was selected among the top 10 of SA Idols.

He received some of the highest votes from the public after he left his heart and soul on stage two weeks ago.

Despite his childhood hardships, hard work and dedication saw Thami making it through and flying the Zululand flag high.

‘It’s a dream come true,’ says Thami.

He started singing at an early age. For him music was a way of escaping his life and dealing with his hardships.
Music found him during his high school days at Mthengeni High in Mandeni.

‘One of my teacher’s inspired me and taught me to have a visionary outlook,‘ he said.

It was in church that Thami started showcasing his talent.

He then molded his musical flare and learnt the technical skills of singing.

Five years later, he entered Idols in 2015 and reached the top 16.

His genre is mostly Afro pop and Afro soul, but his versatility is seen through working with artists from 999 Records and Kalawa.

Thami now depends of Zululanders to support his Idols journey by voting for him.
