King Cetshwayo mayor visits the ZO offices

ZO Managing Director Mrs Regina Anthony explained the multi-faceted role of the ZO stable of publications

NEWLY inaugurated mayor of the King Cetshwayo District, Cllr Nonhle Mkhulisi visited the Zululand Observer (ZO) office last Friday to forge a partnership for the benefit of local communities.

The ZO Managing Director Mrs Regina Anthony explained the multi-faceted role of the ZO stable of publications.

She said while the core function of the newspapers was to provide relevant information to its communities, it strongly believed that it was part of the community with a crucial role to play with regards to support and upliftment projects.

Strong emphasis was placed on poverty relief especially through the ZO’s charity organization Do I Care Enough? (DICE).

‘Through DICE we reach out to the less privileged, mostly in rural areas, and provide necessities such as knitted blankets, food parcels and school shoes among other things,’ Anthony said.

Mkhulisi said this tied in perfectly with the many priority projects the district municipality has to uplift the communities in its areas of jurisdiction, especially relating to rural youth and women issues, and it was agreed that regular meetings should be held to establish a mutually beneficial working relationship in this regard.

Touching on the possibility of the district becoming a metro, Mkhulisi said each of the parties should position themselves to meet the new demands for when metro status is accorded. She also talked about the district municipality’s commitment to oversee proactive development of tourism and agricultural projects in the region, as well as to address the water shortages.
