Wild pupil claims must be treated with caution

There are also many child-headed families without parents or adults to guide them

THE article ‘Call for sex pest teachers investigation’ in the ZO’s Weekender edition, has reference.

Principals and teachers have a mandate from the Department of Education to educate the children of this country.

To achieve this, they have to instill discipline among the pupils as unfortunately it seems that parents no longer feel that this is an important part of raising children.

There are also many child-headed families without parents or adults to guide them.

This we understand, and so discipline is one of the cornerstones of teaching.

Unfortunately pupils don’t like it when they are taught to behave and consequently they develop a dislike for the teachers.

This leads some pupils becoming vindictive and claim abuse or sexual harassment by teachers or principals, which is not always the case.

I’m not saying that this doesn’t happen, I’m sure it does.

But such claims must first be properly investigated before it is thrown into the public domain.

False claims ruin teachers’ careers and reputations.

Remember, respect breeds respect – and it works both ways.
